JEE Advanced is an engineering entrance exam conducted for B.Tech admission to IIT. The exam is held only for top 2,50,000 students who qualify JEE Main. JEE Advanced scores are accepted at 23 IIT for B.Tech/B.E., B.Arch admissions.
The JEE Main examination is conducted by the NTA. This exam is for admission to the premier Engineering colleges in India. The engineering colleges include NITs, CFTIs, IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology), IITs (JEE Main is the first of two exams to be taken for actual admission) and other state and Government funded Institutions. That’s it. JEE Main is a gateway to qualify for JEE Advanced exam.
JEE Advanced 2023 eligibility criteria list five major criteria.
Class 12th Qualifying Marks:
Performance in JEE Main:
1) JEE Main is used as a screening test for JEE Advanced.
2) Only the top 2.5 lakhs JEE Main candidates qualify for JEE Advanced.
3) 10% of these candidates qualify for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% for OPEN seats.
4) An additional 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates in all the above categories.
Age Limit:
Candidates born on or after October 1, 1998 are eligible for JEE Advanced.
Number of Attempts:
A candidate can attempt IIT JEE exam for a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
Earlier Admission at IIT:
A candidate should not have been admitted to any IIT irrespective of whether or not the candidate continued with the enrolled program.
