KAS (Kerala Administrative Service) is the State Civil Services Examination conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC).
Recruitment Process:
- The KPSC KAS is a three-tier examination – Prelims (Screening Test), Mains and Personality Test.
- The preliminary exam or KAS Phase - 1 exam consists of Paper 1 (General Studies consisting of 2 parts), Paper 2 (Language Proficiency - Malayalam), and Language Proficiency in English.
- The KAS Mains level exam consists of 3 papers.
- After qualifying the Mains level successfully, there will be an interview session for 50 marks.
- The main-level exam can be written in either Malayalam or English language. The marks obtained in the preliminary exam will not be considered for the final ranking.
The Kerala Administrative Service recruitment is for candidates from three sections/ streams.
- Stream 1: Direct Appointment
- Stream 2: Direct recruitment from among full members or approved probationers in any Government Department
- Stream 3: Direct Recruitment from among candidates holding Ist Gazetted post
Eligibility Criteria
Age Limit
- Stream 1: 21 years – 32 years
- Stream 2: 21 years – 40 years
- Stream 3: Must not have completed 50 years of age
Education Eligibility
- Stream 1: Graduation in any subject (including professional course) from any UGC recognized university
- Stream 2: Graduation in any subject (including professional course) from any UGC recognized university and, Must be a Full Member or an approved probationer in any Government Department and must not be an Ist Gazetted Officer or above in the Department
- Stream 3: Graduation in any subject (including professional course) from any UGC recognized university, and Must have satisfactorily completed probation in any Cadre in Government

- Scheduled Caste (SC)- No limit
- Scheduled Tribes (ST)- No limit
- Other Backward Classes (OBC)- 7 attempts
