NEET stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. It is a single-level national exam carried out for medical aspirants enabling them to seek admissions to medical courses across different medical institutes of the country. Students who take up NEET, participate in it with the intention of seeking a seat in medical courses across medical colleges/institutes. Qualifying NEET enables one to take up a seat in MBBS/BDS/AYUSH courses and many other related medical programmes.
The minimum educational requirement is clearing class 12 board examinations in science stream with majors in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology/Biotechnology with 50% score.
NEET is carried out by NTA (National Testing Agency) every year under the guidance of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. NTA is only dedicated to conduct the exam and provide results to the DGHS. The exam replaced the previous medical entrance exam All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) completely from 2017 onwards and is the current sole entrance exam for the medical field.
Eligibility for NEET Exam
Nationality
Only students who fit the category of Indian National, NRI, Overseas Citizen of India, Person of Indian Origin can apply for the exam.
Minimum Qualification required
The NEET exam has a mandate that requires students to have cleared their class 12 or any such equivalent course from a recognized board to become eligible for the exam. Furthermore, students who have appeared or are about to appear for the Grade 12 exams can also apply for the NEET exams of the same year.
Since NEET exams are entrance papers for students to embark into the medical field, student must qualify from the science stream with majors in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology with a minimum of 50% score must. Students who have taken Mathematics with optional Biology can also apply for the NEET exams.
